With recent updates and trends, people have once again started questioning the importance of Search Engine Optimization. Some assume that social media is a perfect tool to brand their business and get creditability, while some think that traditional media can alone get you to the top slot.

However, any effort to show up on the first page of a search engine is waste without SEO.

Compare social media and traditional media such as television and newspaper ads to SEO, you will notice that SEO is a better option. Let us understand this with the help of an example. You have a courier company. You place an ad in the newspaper, have worked on a television advertisement, have a social media campaign and an SEO campaign too.

1. Newspapers advertisement

Billions of people read newspaper and most of them see your ad. However, they do not need any courier service. What happens? Next page! And your ad has lost its importance.

2. Television advertisement

With an interesting television advertisement, people will love the add, like it on YouTube, share it on a number of social media sites, but the question remains – Do they need your service? Not really. They loved the advertisement and that’s it!

3. Social Media Campaign

Facebook has more than one billion registered users. Twitter and Google+ are not far behind. So, you have a big audience. Get the likes, retweets and +1s on your posts. Here again, you need to have something interesting, unique and innovative to be catchy and attractive. Talking about success ratio, yes, if your campaign is really good, you can convert most of the fans, followers to buying customers.

4. Search Engine Optimization

Now, let us think about the SEO campaign you have been running. Google, the search engine giant, registers billions of searches every day. Now, let us break it down. Out of the billions of searches on Google, let us assume that 1% are for courier services, approximately 10 million searches per day. Of this, around 1% are from your country, approximately 100,000 searches per day. If you are well-established, you can be sure that you will be able to cater to at least 25% of the count. So, you have a basic target region and you can be sure that you are targeting only those who need your service.

Bottomline: There is no concrete reason to stay away from SEO. Whatever may be the trend, you need an SEO campaign running. How ever destructive may an update be, recovery is possible with a sensible SEO campaign.
