Ways Marketers Can Run Ads on YouTube

YouTube is gaining more popularity than ever now. Who would have thought that a video streaming platform could do so much more than the average? People are making money through their YouTube channels and winning the Stardom all over. But did you know that YouTube could be an advantage for you, too? How? Via ads. Yes, whether you want to gain more audience, generate leads or increase subscribers, YouTube ads can help you.

We usually see ads running at the beginning of a video on the video streaming platform and often we see the ‘Skip Ad’ button but sometimes there ain’t any button and the ad keeps going on. Apart from that, we come across other types of advertisements as well on the social media channel. Here in this blog, I’ll be discussing the types of ad formats on YouTube that social media marketers can use for boosting their business.

Display Ads

Display ads appear at the top right side of the feature video, above the video suggestions list. For larger players or in mobile view, this ad may be featured below the streaming video. Previously, YouTube used to highlight these advertisements with a yellow border to indicate it as an ad. However, now, it no longer uses this technique and posts it as a normal ad with other listings.

Skippable Ads

We’ve all seen this type of ad. It begins at the start of a video and after 5 seconds you can skip the ad if you want to and resume to your video. There’s this visit advertiser link on the advertisement that you can click to go to the main ad page.

Non-skippable Ads

Non-skippable ads are played before the start of the video or may appear during and after the video. These ads usually last for 30 seconds and you’ll have to view the entire ad before resuming to your video.

Bumper Ads

Bumper Ads is just like non-skippable ads but it lasts for a shorter time, which is typically 6 seconds. Running this ad campaign is cheaper than display ads and as per a study from Google, bumper ads can drive a ‘significant lift in ad recall.

Sponsored Ads

Sponsored ads display content that is relevant to your video. For instance, if you are watching a cooking show, you may see ads for kitchen appliances at the right side or at the bottom of the video. These small pop-up ads usually last for a few seconds along with the video and you can click on them to go to the landing page.

With all that, you now know the different types of ads on YouTube and you can choose the right one for your business needs. Videos with interesting thumbnails tend to get more clicks so make sure to add an engaging thumbnail along with a proper call-to-action button to drive sales.
