Single page websites are famous for their aesthetics. Many companies choose single page websites over multi-page ones because of its popularity and fulfill the need of their business too. But, do these single page websites hamper SEO? Can single page websites hurt your rankings on Google? Here are some advantages and disadvantages associated with single page sites and how could a simple design hamper your SEO.

Single page websites offer a better mobile experience:

We all know that the majority of web searches are performed through mobile devices. This is one major advantage of having a single-page website since it is easier to convert the website to its mobile version and users find it easy to navigate too. They load a lot faster than multi-page websites too.

Can target a specific audience easily:

Single page websites are perfect for those looking to target a specific set of audience and provide them with a certain type of user experience. It becomes easy to control such audiences on a single page website as you do not have to worry about clicking on different pages and going haywire. With a single page site, all the required information is available on one page, in whatever order you choose to display.

Higher page authority:

A website’s rank depends on links – which is one of the most significant determining factors. For single page websites, every link will point to the main URL, so the ratio of links will always be 1:1 to pages.

No wide keyword targeting:

Single page websites are designed around one central concept; therefore, the variety of keywords that can be used is limited. For multi-page websites, every page is a new opportunity to rank the website on the search engine. This is one significant difference between multi-page websites and single page websites. If you depend heavily on Google to bring in customers, then it would be better off if you chose multi-page websites as it will have a better chance to rank with the help of different keywords which can attract a wider audience.

Single page site content lacks details:

Another disadvantage of a single page site is that the content published on them is not as specific that you can do with multi-page websites. The multi-page website has the ability to devote a separate page for a topic to be covered; which cannot be done on a single page site, since all information needs to be displayed on a single page. Even with an exceptional layout, lack of relevant content can leave customers with a dissatisfied taste. And it is virtually impossible to cover the same amount of information that a multi-page website covers, on a single web page.

No scope for advanced SEO strategies:

SEO strategies like Siloing won’t work with single page sites. Siloing is the practice of structuring the website into main areas of interest to demonstrate authority in those areas. It is basically for organizing your website into categories and subcategories. The main topic is broken down into different parts and covered in great detail. This isn’t possible with a single page website, and even if you tried, it would come out as a disorganized mess. A multi-page design is much suited for siloing.

Single page websites aren’t SEO Experts’ best friend. But then again, those choosing to go with a single page website won’t be interested in SEO Services. Whether to choose a single-page website or a multi-page website will entirely depend on your business and how it approaches the customers. So, it is you who decide.
